Water and Candles: The EU-supported documentary about missing persons in Kosovo premiered in Pristina

Jun 28, 2022

The EU-supported documentary about missing persons in Kosovo titled Water and Candles premiered last night in Pristina’s Kino Armata.

The purpose of the documentary produced by Kosovo 2.0 and the Humanitarian Law Centre Kosovo is to contribute to the public discussion and raise awareness about the issue of missing persons, ensuring that it remains high on the agenda.

“The issue of more than 1600 missing persons remains one of the most painful topics in Kosovo, and the work to discover their fate and provide solace to their families must continue,” said EU Ambassador in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog, at the movie screening.

The documentary is an integral part of the EU-funded project aiming to mobilise media and civil society organizations and improve their ability to research, investigate, and report about the fate of missing persons in Kosovo.

EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues Miroslav Lajcak also attended the premiere.

“Missing Persons is an urgent humanitarian issue. It is important for the families and loved ones of the missing to be able to find closure. This is why we also pay special attention to it in the Dialogue on normalisation of relations,” said Lajcak.

The producers of the Water and Candles documentary will next start applying to various festivals.
